No more suffering!

I knew Uncle Tom was not doing well. Ms. Wilma had called and told me on Monday night. As I was traveling home on Wednesday morning at around 9:35 she called again and said that he had just passed and Larry said to call Jill and let our family know. She did and I appreciated the call and began letting the rest of our family know. As sad as we are, we know that he is so very happy! So many years he has not been able to get out and ride a tractor or golf cart, just bed-ridden. I felt the urgency to be back home with the snap of a wand, but not possible!

I stopped, gassed up and ran through a drive through. Between Eatonton and Gray, I get a call from Lila. Now, she is the one we were close in age with. Linda and Larry were older than us so most of our young days were spent playing and working with Lila. She wanted to make sure that we had heard the news. She told me that even though we did not see each other as much anymore that we were all still like family and that we were just bonded together, and nothing could break those bonds!  OK….I had been holding it together until Lila called…and I still did on the phone while talking to her. I tried to encourage her as best I could and told her that I would be back in town shortly and would see her tonight! Then we hung up the phone and I wept, and cried and ached for their pain. I know this pain, as they do. They loved my Dad just like I did, and love theirs!

I got home around 2:30. I had to get WB clothes washed up, get the payroll done for the week and I made to pineapple hot dishes to take over to the Lodge family.  Got dressed and put the dishes in the car, closed the trunk, began the drive over and before I get out the driveway, the tears! Oh yeah, I am not even over their yet.

Trudge on along, go the paved road because we had rain a few days ago. Get to the road to turn on… and the Road Sign says “Tom Lodge Road”! I know this, but seeing it….deep breath. Now this dirt road is the road that we traveled almost daily! Many memories, that I will talk about later…deep breath! Get to their house, go in the back door…..in the kitchen their are some of the people I love dearly. More tears, go hug my Aunt Dot…..more tears!

I stayed and helped Amber with things in the kitchen and we did have many laughs. So much love pouring out from friends, family neighbors and their church family!  As we are still in the kitchen and they were helping Aunt Dot get to bed….here she comes, in her robe. Amber said, Nana, I thought you were going to bed? She said, I am not going to bed, I am not ready to go to bed yet….I am not!!!  I said, OK everybody…did you hear that…the boss of this place is not going to bed yet!!! She and all of us just laughed! Here comes Lila, I told her…she is not going to bed yet, she is the boss and so you may as well forget it!!! She is going to be up for a while!!! Too funny! She is a very independent woman!

Today,  is also Larry, his sons birthday.        Larry said, “he had seen his Dad suffer so much the past years that his death was the best birthday gift he could have ever given him.” I must say that is true love, loving enough to let go of someone that you love so much!

The viewing will be Thursday night and the funeral Friday.

Happy Birthday Mom!

More Sante Fe Birthday fun

2011-08-27

There was river riding, rope swinging, manatee watching, kayaking with the sweetest strangers you could ever meet, and bunny building, swimming, eating and some really cold water! There were hungry babies, wet  babies, napping babies and some (young adults) who wish they could take a a nap…and it was not the old adults…lol!!! All in all, a pretty fantastic day!

Sante Fe River Birthday’s

Yes, it does say “River Birthday’s”! Cayla (celebrating her 21st) and Bart  (his 25th)  have birthday’s that are about a week apart. We decided this year that we would go and spend the day relaxing and staying cool in the river. And that is just what we did. The problem was…..what do you do for birthday cake??? It has been so hot and I knew it would melt! Think, think, think!!!

047

I got it, you just pick up some brownies from Sam’s, get some candles (it was to windy to light them) come home and get out the scrape book paper and some stickers….and there ya go! A birthday brownie cake on the go! Don’t ya know Martha Stewart would just love this!!!

046

And you  can just change out the decorations for the shared birthday person, who happens to be my son-in-law!!!

Yes, I know..I am crazy! But listen, the boat is just so big and we have 2 babies aboard, 1- 5 yr old and 7 adults, and you know how much stuff you have to take with them babies…everything but the kitchen sink!!! LOL1

A Note in the Mail

Yes, on August twelfth we received a little announcement from Cayden in the mail!  It was not something planned, but you know…..God is in control and it is what it is…. we will be looking forward to welcoming another grand, they are the best!!! But, oh  what a job they will have with these two being so close, but they are young…they can handle it!

Funny thing……there are some things that you can not hide from you Mom, sister and grandma’s!!! We knew it, the signs were there and were just waiting on the news…LOL!!!

Things happen in God’s time and not ours!!!

Congrats to Cayla and Ryan!

One HOT Summer

It has been so hot this summer!!! It is time to plant for the fall crop, but it is so hot by 12:00 that the workers can hardly stand it. They get so much done in the mornings, but the hotter  it gets, the less than can physically do, and we understand. But, time is money and so…. this is what everyone agreed to try!!! (I was instructed to get some bright flashlights and lots of batteries! So I did!)

Plant real early in the am…..4:00 am to be exact, which means the hubby has to get up at 3:00 to have everything ready when they get here.  I just had to get some pictures, because this is a first at this farm…..so yes, I drug my hinny out of bed and made myself go and catch a bit of history!

Farm 2011

Here is the tractor with the pepper plants ready for the employees. This is Ronald Sutton (aka Booda) who has been with us for at least 16 years. We could not make it without him!

Farm 20112

This is what I saw as I walked up! They are happy because it is so much cooler!

Farm 20111

Hard, back breaking work! Many of these guys have been with us for years too! We could not do it with out them!

I would have to be crawling on my hands and knees, the ole gal ain’t what she use to be!!!

Happy 50th Emmett and Martha------July 9th

On Sunday, July 17th, Two-thousand and eleven, a 50th anniversary celebration was held in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Bridges. After family members gathered for morning services at Dasher Church of Christ, a lunch was held in honor of the couple at the Kinderlou Country Club.

The couple of 50 years received a memory book of their lives together and a lovely picture frame. The frame held a picture of the couple on their wedding day as well as a recent picture.

Included in the memory book are personal letters of memories from each of their sons and daughter as well as one from each of their grandchildren. All of their participation made the book special!

The celebration was hosted by:  Mr.  and Mrs. Winston Bridges, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bridges, Mr. and Mrs. Todd Bridges and Miss Jenny Lynn Bridges.

Suwannee River 2011

We rented a house on the Suwannee again this year and spent the weekend of July the 4th. We left on Friday and came back on the 5th. Bart, Casey and family joined us late Friday night! Casey and I got up Saturday morning and came to Valdosta and picked up Cayden, it was his parents anniversary so they went out of town for the weekend. He will spend the night with us Saturday night. All of the kids came and visited some time during our stay! It was fun! But the water was very low due to the drought….we had to be really careful!!! The Sante Fe was low also, but not as dangerous as the Suwannee! We were able to travel, but had to go slow in some areas!

Suwannee 2011

The house we stayed in belongs to people that are new to renting. We did several things that needed to be done around the place…changing light bulbs, etc!!! WB had to fix the shower door, it fell in on him one night…lol!!! I warned him!!!

Suwannee 20111

Kylie trying to swim. Isabella loved her float, but Cayden was not to fond of his. Then the two little ones fought over Papa’s phone holder!!! Isabella won this round, she just got it and softly reached over and bonked him on the head with it….didn’t bother him a bit!!! LOL!

Suwannee 20112

Playing, swimming, floating, laughing, enjoying the sun…resting!!!

Kylie was not to sure about going off the swing, so Papa showed her how to do it. Now, now he was smart and grabbed the rope up high….some of us did not do that…just saying! Oh the things we do for those grands!

Suwannee 20114

Everyone except Cole and Josie left by the 4th, so it was just the four of us. Winston and I love to ride the river! We all rode to the Sante Fe and on the way out  of the river saw 2 manatee’s!

Winston and Cole are the Captains of our vesssel….but so is MamaJ!!! When Cole is not aboard!

Cole just loved the yellow boat in the collage boat. He kept telling us one day he was going to have a boat like that…lol! I told him that if he got a boat like that he would have to lift some weights and get a body like the guy on the boat too……LOL!!! Just saying!!! He laughed!

Now I had really wanted to go off that swing, but thought it best to wait…so I  did. Just the four of us were there. Cole told me I did not need to do that, I would get hurt…..well, you only live once ! The problem was, I am not strong enough to hold up all this extra baggage that I am hauling around…lol!!! So I kind of had to Fred Flintstone it, if you know what I mean. I nearly drown laughing! And Josie had to try it too, but she just looked so graceful, then she told me she took dance and I will tell ya she probably does not weigh a hundred pounds soak and wet!!!

It was fun and I did jam my toe, Cole was right…but I did it several times and will do it again, maybe!!!

Suwannee 20115

The last day on the water. WB asked what I wanted to do? My answer…..lets go find the Manatee’s!!! And we did….and we were to excited people. In all of the years we have been taking our kids, not one time had we seen those creatures!!! WB is saying, do you see them Jill? Are you getting that picture!!! I had the camera snapping and WB was maneuvering the boat as not to hit one and I am running around the boat snapping pictures. We saw around 17 of them!!! They were on the Sante Fe and with the water so clear and low, they we amazing! I just wanted to swim with them!

We decided to get everything cleaned up and load the boat since WB would need to get back home early in the morning! We loaded the boat, got things cleaned up and decided we could be home by 10:00 and sleep in our own bed. Plus, then I would not have to get up real, real early!!! It is the funniest thing, when we are on vacation and it is like the last day…you can see the wheels turning in WB’s head. He is already working….so it is best just to get on home!!! It was a fun, peaceful vacation!

Photography Class

Well, I talked Cayla in to going to a photography class with me. It was very last minute, that is the way we roll! This is going to be a fun class!  The first class was June 16th and the second the 23rd. We do have homework.

Our first assignment was pretty simple. But, it was so stinking hot outside!!! I kept opening the door and seeing what was close I could catch a picture of!!! The pictures that we all turned in were pretty good.  He did ask us to try and act like we did not know anything even if we did. He likes for us to see our progression as the class goes along.

One lady said that all she has is a Barbie camera and her daughter( who is taking the class with her, and talked her into going with her) won’t share hers! LOL  They are so funny!!!

Cayla emailed her pictures to him as she was leaving to go to the second class….and he ragged her about that, we all laughed and she did too!!!

We were supposed to take the pictures during this week if at all possible. I did turn in a couple taken within the last two months and I did confess to it!!! Another lady turned in a couple that her daughter took…lol! And another said she needed to confess on a couple of hers too!!! Even the instructor used a couple of pictures that a previous class had taken!!! We all cracked up! He said that at the next class he was going to put a podium up so we could all just take a moment for confession!

I did good in that I did not adjust my photo’s. Just cropped them as he recommended! He asked that we turn in eight pictures. We all did, next time we only have to do five! Here are the eight I turned in!
