Charles Quay Dickey

On April 7th,  Uncle Charles was working in his yard when he passed out and fell.  He is my Dad’s, sisters husband. Thus began a long stay in the hospital. When one thing was taken care of another went wrong, then finally he got an infection. This hospital had only seen it once before. He could not beat the infection, and he lost his battle on May 28th.

We have such sweet memories of his family. For awhile they lived right beside us in a trailer, while Uncle Charles was overseas. Oh the fun and fusses we had, but mostly fun times!!! We rode the bus together, rode ponies together, had tea parties together, shared piano recitals together and graduated kindergarten together. It was a sad day when they had to move!

Uncle Charles would come home now and again and that was a sweet occasion for all of us! He would spend lots of time with the kids. Leading us around on the pony, spitting watermelon seeds with us and bearding us!!!!
What a special man and Dad he was to so many of us!

They moved to Missippi  years ago and have been their ever since. They would come in the summer and stay a week or so. One time Shannon brought his motorcycle, we go off for a ride…he hit some sand…..it threw him off of his bike, he had a concussion and spent the night in the hospital. We were all scared, but what a memory that made! This year they had a camper on the back of the truck, the coolest thing ever!!! This same year we went back and stayed a week with them.  Riding bicycle’s, playing, taking a tour of Columbus MS., oh what a great time! Daddy came and got us, but we really would have liked to stay their!

Years passed with a few visits here and there. They bought a house there. Uncle Charles just loved it. We surprised them one time with a visit. We were so excited to go and see them, Daddy just popped in on them…oh boy! Well, we did not know for sure if it was the right house. I go and knock on the door, Shannon opens the door, his mouth feel open and he could not talk. He closed the door and went back inside. He could not even tell his parents who was at the door! Priceless, just priceless!!! Finally, someone else came to the door and they nearly fell out too!!!

Lots of hugs and kisses and laughter! I remember their house being in like a field, no trees or anything, it looks like a different place now. He loved working out in the yard. Uncle Charles always had a flag and a pole!!! He would go out in his robe and raise it! He loved to tinker with trucks, loved country music and loved his family!!! He could laugh real loud and burp like loud thunder, lol!!! He was just the best. He believed in discipline, working hard and respect! He loved God and his country. He was always worried about this country!

He was a great Christian man and will forever be remembered for his love, kindness and concern for others!

Uncle Charles, we miss you so very much!

Columbus MS Trip

Left Monday morning for Columbus MS. Mom, Kylie and myself. It will be Kylie’s first funeral, but it is just mostly a memorial, a celebration of Uncle Charles life. Which I think is just great! I took Kylie to help out her Mom who has lots to do right now. This will be a quick trip because we are in the middle of packing produce and I have to be  back Wednesday to do the payroll!

Kylie has asked several times, how much longer is it? I hooked up a dvd player, she has some snacks, so she is pretty well set! She did really good on the way. It has been around 26 years since I have been to their house. I think I was pregnant with Cole when I went last! So, my how things have changed along the way!!!! We are staying in a hotel tonight because I just did not want to go in on them at such a difficult time.  They do no need to have worry about all of us!

We are staying about ten minutes from their house, which is nice and Kylie can swim for about an hour night. That will make her a happy girl!

We arrived about 5:30 and went to visit until about 9:00. It was great to see them, Aunt Tommie and Kelly(who live within 30 miles or so of us) Kylie took to Shawn as all kids do! He watched cartoons with her and got some of his art supplies. He is an artist and she was checking out all if his work! Pretty amazing!!!

We headed back to the hotel and let Kylie go for a swim. She loved it and slept well!

Woke the next day, packed up the car, back to the Dickey’s house. Ate a little breakfast, visited. Uncle Charles's sister’s and nieces came around 12:00. They will stay with Aunt Ann tonight. Some are from Texas and some Louisiana. Kylie was introduced to them and then she asked them if they would like for her to show them around. LOL! She did and she started with Shawn’s art, then on to the restrooms!!! She is so funny!

Hot as French-fries

While watching the news with Kylie, the weather comes on and it shows the states and they are all in red. She wanted to know what they meant. I told her that it was going to be very hot. Her reply…..oh my, we gonna be as hot as a bunch of french-fries!

A smoothie machine

AS Kylie was riding with her day last weekend, she began to tell him how she had worked at Papa's packing shed. She told him it was weally, weally hard work!!! (She handed boxes to one of the ladies…..because she wanted too!!!) He asked her if he still had the snack machine down their. She said no sir, but he needs to get a smoofie (smoothie) machine. Daddy, I need to call him wight now and tell him!!!

Peach Ice cream

Cayla decided that we had to make peach ice cream. Well, that was a great idea…but, need to find my Aunt Jeans recipe, get ingredients and Cayla said we needed to check the churn. I told her it would be fine. We go to Hahira and get he ingredients. Come home and pick the peaches, peel the peaches, slice the peaches. Mix the ingredients, clean the churn, pour the cream in the churn……..the churn just hums, it will not turn, no ice is stuck! I told you Mama, she said. Off we  go to buy a churn. Home again, clean the new churn, pour up cream, add ice and salt and wait!!!! Is this ever going to get ready???  Yes, Finally!!!! It was pretty good and it was expensive!!! But we made great memories and had a whole lot of laughter and fun!!!  Thanks Cayla!!!

Our Grands on Mothers Day 2011

2011-04-24 Izzy and Ky-Easter 2011

This year for Mothers Day we gathered at the farm for Mothers Day, Casey’s Birthday and our egg hunt ! Some are out of town on Easter, others had a chance to visit with their in-laws for Easter, and I decided to do mine on Mothers Day….it is just how it fell. More family, more people to consider and work around! All though, most do not seem to care about gaining more family and thinking of others families and their traditions! When all of your family live in one place, we will all need to learn to adapt to make it more pleasant for all involved. We now see why people go out of town on Holidays!!! It just makes it easier. LOL

We had a great meal, cake and a fun egg hunt. What a blessed day!!! To have family gathered around and enjoying themselves!

Easter Festivities 2011

Easter 2011

There is just something about dying real eggs that I enjoy. I guess it reminds me of my childhood egg hunts that I loved so much! So the tradition continues!!! Isabella is all excited about coloring those eggs! And Miss Kylie wanted to color all of them right by herself!!!
