Peach Snuff

When I was a young girl, many of the farmers grew tobacco. It is how we made a living & it paid our bills. We always had the privilege of helping Uncle Tom & Aunt Dot with their tobacco, along with their son Larry! You know we were just thrilled to work 6 days a week! Well, Aunt Dot always fed us a great dinner & we raided the outside frig & the cake plate as much as we could during the day. If you had time while hauling the tobacco from the field to the barn, you could stop & jump out...go to the restroom & grab something to eat! I remember Fanta orange & grape drinks. One day after dinner, Lila, Lynn & myself went outside in the front yard. Lila got the mail. There was a box in the mail...she opened it & guess what was inside....yep a sample can of Peach Snuff!!! Well, you know we were working in the stuff & we decided we would try some. Lila got her some, I got a little....I did not want to get sick.....then it was Lynn's turn. Well, she could not get it to come out of the can. She was sitting on the lawn mower I do believe. She told us just to pour her a little. So she held out her bottom lip while Lila began to try & drop some in. It would not come out, so we needed to tap on the bottom of the can. Lynn's holding out her lip, Lila's got the can, and I helped tap...well, when it came out it was not just a little and if you don't know, it is like powder. Oh dear, the laughter began...Lynn got a little tickled too, which did not help her situation at all. It was everywhere, in between all of her teeth. She got to the nearest water hose & washed her mouth out then told us that it was... not funny....I said, just a little!! We really did not mean for that to happen. Well folks Lynn & I did not go for the snuff....but Lila did...I think she dipped that stuff for about a month!!! We told her it was going to make her sick! I went to see Uncle Tom & Aunt Dot the other day, they are not doing well. Uncle Tom had a stroke years ago & his health has declined. Aunt Dot was just in the hospital for a week with heart problems. I ate lunch with her & as I sat & looked out the dining room window I just had to chuckle at all the fun we had working in tobacco. I shared the snuff story with her & she shared a memory she had from her childhood... skipping school, walking down the railroad track and trading a sandwich for some snuff with a little colored lady. Then her & her friends sprawled out on the railroad track sick as dogs! Love to visit with these two!

Update on Cole---March 22 appt.

To sum it up….the wound looked so much better!!!! The bone they did not put a pin in….still healing….back into a removable Velcro cast, and now he can begin moving and stretching it daily-several times to strengthen it. He is not very happy about the cast, but he will survive. He can still not pick up  anything heavy, 10-15 pounds max. Return in 2-3 weeks.

Birthday Lunch

Thursday night a dear friend called, said a little bird told her it was my birthday and lets go to lunch…fine with me! I just wanted a good ole salad. We went to Zaxby’s, love the grilled chicken salad! We had a great lunch and afternoon. The funniest thing …..she thought I was older than I am….we have a mutual friend  that is older than my sister and myself, who we spent lots of time with since our Dad’s farmed together. She just thought we were all the same age!!! It was so funny…she said..now we are celebrating your 50 something right, I responded with…. who me??? She said, yes. I said….well no…then she suggested she take her foot out of her mouth…we laughed….as I told her, well I was still in my forties!!!!  I mean just hanging on to it by a thread!!! She said, man I was way off wasn’t I?  We laughed some more as we enjoyed the beautiful day. Then we went to Lowes and a couple of other places! I just want to thank-Julie for taking me to lunch and sharing a special birthday with me…and in about 4 years I will be that fifty something, Lord willing! Love ya Jules! You are very special!

Wonderful Birthday

I just have to thank my family and friends for making my birthday special this year. We started by going to eat at Covington’s on Wed. for lunch. The girls could not do Thurs & Friday due to work! My dear friend & ma-in-law treated 8 of us to lunch! Now how sweet is that??? She also gave me a card with a little something in it…..Thank-you Helen for being so kind, I do not deserve such wonderful treatment, but I so enjoyed it! Aunt Mary came & joined us & brought a gift that was not expected…your to much sweet lady and I  thank-you and so enjoyed your company…the fish will be on my desk & for now will be a pencil holder, maybe I will find a plant that I can not kill---silk maybe??? Mom, Buffy, Sara, Casey and Cayla also blessed me by joining us at Covington's..yum! Thanks again Helen for the treat and to everyone who took time out of their day to join us… I am grateful, you helped make a birthday more than just a birthday…you all made it special because you all are very special to me! I thank-you!

4 year check-up

Kylie went for her 4 year old check up. I said that I was not going to go, she would be getting 4 shots! Now I have been for most of the others, but this is a tough one. 4 shots, thumb pricked, urine sample…oh boy! Well, I did go to help Casey and hold Kylie’s hand. She did so well…she did say that it hurts, really bad as the nurse gave her the shots. When she pricked her finger….before the shots…did not bother her. She did get her special band aids & that made it some better. Then she had to have a wart burned, took that like a champ too! She is in the 90th percentile for height and 80th percentile for her weight. I was so proud of her. We told her she could have a treat….ice cream..etc. All she wanted was to go see her Papa at the barn…he can make it feel better she said….the she would get some ice cream! Casey brought her out here while I ran some errands. She told Papa the story about the shots and asked  him if he got them when he was a little boy. He told her, yes..but I got mine in my hinney! Well, that was about all of the shot talking. She just needed some hugs, kisses and orange drink & candy to make her feel better!

And the gifts!

Update on Cole

Today’s appt went pretty well. The break is healing but with the cast on the wound is not healing so fast. They took him out of his cast, cleaned it out, put him back in a soft cast…now he has to clean it out every day…put back on the soft cast…and re-wrap it. Uggghhhhh!
