My memories written...in a not so proper way...so I can remember what in the world happened during my crazy, fun, blessed life!
A few memories I have of Grandma Wisenbaker.
- She was such a support & encourager in our marriage and children!
- She shared her wisdom of scripture with us!
- She helped Winston and I start his farming career by signing a note with him. She was excited about his farming! One of the last times she was able to come over to the farm, she told me how proud she was of him and his operation. She was amazed at how much the farm had grown. She talked about how smart he was and what a hard worker he was, & still is I will add! She also would tell us that "All work & no play made for a dull boy".
- She was so proud of our house we were able to build. Her favorite room was my kitchen. I told her that was because it was the only one that had accessories!
- While visiting with her one day, I remember exactly where she was standing, we were talking about husband's & how they work so hard and can just pick up on Saturday's & go fishing, etc. This was a long time ago, of course! She shared a story about her & Grandpa Gus in their younger years. She said, I would be fussing at him about one thing or another, as we all do at one time or another in our lives, and when he got tired of listening to it, he would just get up, get his fishing pole & tackle box & head out to the pond! She just chuckled as she told me & said it just would make me so mad at him, he would just leave me here fussing, it was such a cute story & I am so glad she shared it with me! Some times we all need a pole & a tackle box!
- I remember talking about being proud of our children. I told her that I knew my Dad was proud of us, but he never bragged on us that I had ever heard! She said, well you tell him that Grandma said, " Well, any old black bird that doesn't think her feathers are the blackest, ain't much of a black bird". We laughed so hard and I told my Dad what she said & he just chuckled! Then he told me he was proud of his girls, but he just didn't like to tell every one about it.....he was so modest!
- She would tell me I needed to come to her house more, because I was good for her soul. She was talking about my laughter. We would talk about all kind of stuff & I am sure I would find some type of humor & share it with her, & then she would chuckle!
- I think Grandma was pretty much a serious type of lady, not full of foolishness you could say, well that is where I came in & filled her soul with laughter. It was my pleasure Grandma, and thank you for treating me as one of your own. I love you and will miss you, your love, your advice and wisdom and the laughter we shared together!
Grandma Wisenbaker, we will miss you deeply! But we also rejoice knowing you are not suffering anymore! No more pain and a brand new body....how wonderful!
Your girls are to be commended for a job well done as they were diligent in their care for you. I know you are proud of them. I know they will miss you so much. You were always standing by to help each and every one of them! To meet what needs they had, at that time!
We love & miss you!
Williams Christmas 2008:
The event was on Friday, after Christmas. We decided to have steak, baked potato & salad as our menu. I was in charge of the potato's. I wrapped them at my house & took them to cook at Mom's.
I wanted to go early so I could visit since I did not get to visit much Thanksgiving. Buffy & Missy were still at her house. Lynn, Paul & John were loading up to go & get a Wii that Lindsey found at Walmart. Lynn did let Paul go & stayed with Mom & I. Thanks Lynn....I enjoyed the laughs about old times & catching up on the news.
I preheated the oven....I thought...not my oven....I did not press start! We were just talking, walking around outside, thinking the oven was preheating...wrong! When I went to put the potato's in the oven was not hot! Oh boy, don't think we will be eating at 6:30! Buffy arrives, they get out the grill, we know we are not going to make the 6:30 time!!! Finally, the tators got ready! We had a delicious meal in spite of a few bumps!
I gave Mom her present early because we could use it....silverware! You don't need 20 or so place settings but a few times a year, but when you need them....you need them! So she got her present a little early.
The meal was delicious and a nice change. After the kids ate, they were ready for gifts. We adults were enjoying our food eating dessert and chatting. They keep wanting us to hurry us, just as we did our parents when we were kids. We told them we had to finish dessert and besides this was how our parents did us & we just needed to pass this on to them so they could pass it on to their kids! Life is such a circle!!
Finally, it was gift time. Katie & Kylie went first & they were sooo cute! Then the next kids & so on. Winston always gives Lynn a gag gift...and Lindsey too. This year I found some monkey butt powder, lotion, wipes & one other one that i can not remember. I am for real...that is what its called. Cayla & I gave Winston the powder also! It was really funny. He has given them a cow skull, a leg lamp, a brick etc. It is always interesting to see what he comes up with. This year he gave Buffy's girls water guns. A little pay back for a huge bear and a pair of drums!!! Well, after those water guns were opened that was it...they were all outside. After Winston squirted Mom with one them, that is! Glad it was hot! Those kids had the best time & anyone who went out the door was wet! They were chasing Cole, Austin, Winston, Bart, Dalton, David, Kevin....you get the picture. Buffy got out the front & managed to slip by all of them & loaded her car! Austin got the water hose to squirt them with, but as he was waiting with the water on, Kevin slipped behind him, turned off the water, when the girls came...he had no water. He thought he must of had a kink in the hose!!
Yes, Christmas is usually a little crazy at the little white house that we grew up in. It is a little crowded, but you never know what is going to happen. A niece might even hand her uncle a book about The Farting Dog....& get him to read it! He did not know what the book was about & his face turned red, but he just kept on reading it! They had given this book to their Dad for Christmas. I heard their is one where this dog got banned from the beach also!
What a fun time!
Bridges Christmas 2008
Christmas 2008 was different in many ways, but the same in others.
For 25 years we have gone to The Bridges to have our Christmas on Christmas Eve! This year was a little different. With Grandma Wisenbaker so ill, the daughters are taking turns tending to her! Each one of them have their family Christmas on the 24th. Well, this was not possible as someone had to stay with Grandma. First we were going to have lunch, but everyone seemed to be doing it earlier this year! Then Jerry & family decided to come on Friday....well, that is Jenny's birthday & the day she likes to go to Red Lobster at lunch and they could not be here that early anyway! Friday night, the Williams family had planned our get together. Oh my, just trying to find a good time for all is a major task as everyone knows who have family!
Mike Armstrong died right before Christmas, God be with all of them during this sad time, and his funeral was Sat. at 11:00, which was when Martha had decided to have her Christmas. Time must change again, we will attend the funeral!! Well, usually they come over Christmas morning to watch Kylie, our kids and have breakfast with us! But it was Martha's time at Grandma's!!! Emmett also came down Wed. with the virus that Jenny & Martha had...oh what a Christmas!! Since they could not come for breakfast & Kylie was at her Spencer family, we were having Kylie's Christmas in the afternoon & I had planned to cook Christmas night, I invited them to come over & eat with us & we would just do our Christmas here this year!
I know Martha was disappointed, as we were, that we did not get to do this Christmas Eve....you should have seen us...we did not know what to do with ourselves!!! Winston and I went golfing!!She loves to cook & have her Christmas at her house! She is such a great host!!! But, we got through it.
We had our family Christmas the morning of the 25th. We saved one gift to open with Kylie when she got home! I made a breakfast casserole & rolls....very informal! I worked most of the day making a cake, setting the table, cleaning up the morning Christmas mess!
We were all waiting for Kylie to arrive home!! She arrived around 3:00. She took my finger & took me straight to the tree. She wanted to know who's presents were where?
Which ones were hers, where is mine, Cole's?
We told her she needed to take a nap so Santa would come. When she woke we had her Christmas, then.....time to clean this mess up!!!
We decided to have a low country boil for dinner. Winston cooked this down at the barn. We poured it on a platter in the middle of the table. It was so good!
The only problem was that Jenny had never seen such! She was hungry until she saw all of it mixed together! She wanted to know if that was all we were having!Ha! I had asked Martha about this earlier!!! She does like shrimp! After she saw that you could separate it on your plate, she did eat! I do not know if she peeled any of the shrimp or not, but she did eat the sausage...which was a little hot!It was funny....she probably wanted to go through McDonald's on the way home!!! Oh well, we are making some funny memories! (Poor Emmett did not get to eat because he was sick....so far Casey & Cayla have gotten the same bug!!! Just waiting on the rest of us to get it!)
After eating we opened gifts, visited a bit, cleaned up the kitchen and I was tired!!! What a big, blessed, happy day! Yes, Christmas was a little different this time, but we still had fun.
Sorry for such a long post, but if I do not put this down I will forget the events of Christmas 2008! I will post about the Williams Christmas later!
