My memories written...in a not so proper way...so I can remember what in the world happened during my crazy, fun, blessed life!
Post Surgery Update
Cayla began physical therapy the Monday after surgery. The therapist was very impressed with Cayla and her progress. She has been doing exercises since her injury. Her Dr. told her the PT would be easier if she would go ahead & begin the exercises. She did & it paid off. Instead of 3 times week, she was able to go twice a week. She was able to come out of her brace in late April!!! She was excited!
She now goes to therapy once a week!!! She still has to be careful with the knee. It takes every bit of 6 months for the graft to grow together & be strong again. No activity or being around horse play! We told her she now has a knee worth $20,000.00 dollars!!! Unbelievable!!!!
One of the most amazing things has been how quick she lost the muscles in that leg. It is quite smaller than the other. I have been told it may be stronger than the good leg after pt.
Cayla has gone to a couple of soccer games, but it is just to hard for her to watch so she just has to stay away. She has a new set of golf clubs that she has used a little.
We are learning to play and it is not as easy as it looks!!!
May is going to be very busy with it being the end of school!!!
The Turtle
Today as we were coming up the drive we saw a turtle in the drive. I could not resist the opportunity to show Kylie this turtle. Cayla got out to get it, she was not to sure of this! Hee! We put it in a shoe box & took it to the barn so Papa could enjoy this with us!!We let it out of the box & it took off, Kylie did know what to think of this, she said, dat scare me! Sydney did not know what to make of this turtle either! We told Kylie about the turtle & watched it for a few minutes. Then we took it back to the pond to set it free. When I placed it by the pond it stuck its head out, it could smell the water! Kylie was amazed when it went in the water & swam! I tried to teach her the turtle poem, not interested!
Surgery 3/20/08
Nanna came to spend the night with Cayla & go with us to surgery tomorrow. Cayla got her to sleep with her. Reminds me of the time Cayla had surgery years ago!! We got up around 4:30 and were ready to go around 5:15. Arrived at SGMC around 5:50. They took us back to out-patient at 6:00. Got Cayla ready for surgery. Grandma Bridges also came to be with Cayla today. Dr. Bearden came in to see her & talk with us, he is so kind! I did snap a few pictures for Cayla's memory book!!! She did not want me to, but I got a few! They took her back around 7:40. She came out of surgery around 10:15. Then an hour in recovery. She got back to the room, the anesthesia made her itch. It was terrible. He showed us some pictures of her knee and told us what he had found & repaired. She did have a torn meniscus, in two places. He took one tear out, could not get the other one out, so he roughed the edge of it up, made it bleed and hopes it will heal on its on!!!
She also had some cartlidge(sp) damage.
We left SGMC around 4:30. Headed to Sam's to get her meds! Got home around 6:00.
Got her in our bed, her room is up the stairs, no stairs yet! She had some experience with the crutches so that helped a lot!!!
We had a pretty sleepless night. The doc said whatever you do, do not get behind on her meds! That means set the alarm, etc. She also has a cooler with a pump in it. It has 2 hose's connected to it. You feel it with ice & water, the pump circulates the cold water to a pad that is attached to the hose, that is velcro's over her knee.
Why couldn't I think of such a great device! It keeps the water cool for around
3 hours!!! That sure beats a zip lock bag, or a bag of beans from the freezer!!! Now,
if they can figure out how to make it fill itself with water & ice...that would be even greater!!!!Ha! I am so thankful to have it!!! We were up most of the night!!! Cayla has slept very little! She just can't relax to sleep! I am sure the med's are some of it! Mom stayed with us so I got to sleep Friday afternoon!
Chris & Jenny Petty came to visit Friday afternoon late!
Saturday Paul, Lynn, John & Lindz came by, they had been to Orlando for Spring Break. John is playing on Lipscomb's baseball team. They brought Cayla some earrings and came by to check on her. It was great to see them.
Mom stayed until Sunday afternoon, then headed back to Buffy's. She sure was a big help!
Martha came & helped Cayla get a bath later Sunday. Cayla did not want me to help her, I think she was sacred I would get sick!! Thank goodness for grandparents!!!
Monday Cayla was able to come off of one of her strong pain meds...thank goodness!!
She is also trying to take half of the dose of the other.
Tuesday she went to Physical Therapy. We did take 2 pain meds for this. We were so apprehensive about it but she did very well. We only have to go 2x/week instead of three!! There again Grandma Bridges was at PT to offer her help. Then we went & ate at chick fil a. Cayla & G-ma went to get a book from school & then back home to get a shower!!!
We are improving, but very tired! We are proud to have this part behind us!! Will add pictures later!
Many card, calls and emails were sent & we appreciate them!
Pre-op
Birthday Shopping
Today Kylie, Heather, Martha and myself went to shop for birthday presents for Kylie. Her b-day is on Tuesday the 4th. We will celebrate it Sunday.
First, Kylie, Heather and I went to Michaels. Then to Toys-r-us. Kylie had a blast. We bought a few toys, we are getting mostly clothes!
When we drove in to town, Kylie said, eat mama eat! I hungie! Off to Chick-fil-a!
On to Great-Gma's. Now to the outlet mall. Our first stop was Gap outlet. Well, we had to get Kyie out to try on some pants. She began to shop through the racks & talk just like us. But, she had not done her daily business. While out she loaded her diaper. She usually does not like u to change her unless she is finished. Well, she was stinking up the store, and every time I would go near her she would point her finger & say
no mam, get way from me! She did this to all of us. Of course we were laughing hysterically! I finally picked her up, like a sack of tators & placed her on my side. She began kicking & screaming! I was rolling I was laughing so hard! Great G-ma finally quit laughing long enough to pick her up...kicking & screaming...take her and we changed her. She was not happy about it, but was OK after wards.
I almost forgot to tell about Grandma Bridges & the merry-go-round. Well, she took Kylie on out of the store while we paid for our items. When we came out, we looked down the way. We saw G-ma holding Kylie on the horse. We walked over & G-ma said she needed some quarters!!! The ride was 75 cents!!! My how prices have increased. Now, one lade had already given her a quarter, the ride still did not work!! I came up with another quarter & the ride began! Then Kylie was scared, well I just climbed up on one of the other horses and rode with her!!! Just visualize that!!! Oh well, those Grand's will make u do lots of things u would not normally do!
Kylie took a nap and was better after!
Next time I think I will get a sitter!!!
Cayla is still pretty sick!
