Kylie helps cook breakfast for CaCa

Cayla is out of school for Presidents day & Kylie is so glad. She loves it when CaCa is home during the day. I heard Kylie playing in the pots & pans, I went in and asked if she was cooking. Then I turned & walked to do something else. Well, she came & got me and said,"cook cook! We decided to cook some eggs, toast and grits. CaCa helped Kylie crack open the eggs. She enjoyed her cooking excursion we took today! She also enjoyed the food!

Senior Night 2008

Tonight our Senior's put on their uniform's & played on their home court for the last time as Seniors of these teams. All Seniors usually start. We had no idea that our Cayla would have a chance to take part in this special event, but with the help of her Coaches, the officials, her doctor, and the opposing team, a truly special, tearful night of fond memories were made. First, Cayla's teammate's lined up to run out with her at the lead. They had a banner to run through, but she could not run so she used her fists to push through the sign. After breaking through they all walked out behind Cayla and made their entrance, there was not a dry eye in the gym. After she escorted them to their goal, she went to the bench. The coaches decided to start her, they told the official's, other coach & team. We want to start our injured Senior, but she can not have anyone make contact with her & she can not run. We want to go up at the tip, hit the ball out of bounds & get her off the floor! I will have my sub ready & the opposing team can have possession of the ball. That is exactly what happened. She was able to start her last home game! I believe it helped her spirits just to wear that uniform one more time! As she left the floor the fans stood & cheered for her, what an awesome show of love & support. Her Daddy had to leave the gym with tears in his eye's when he saw her lead her team out for the last time. Then, when he saw them start her, he left & went to the restroom once again! I had to stay & video and take pictures as I cried! As you can see from the pictures it was an emotional night. Once she left the floor for the last time, her emotions got to her. She regained her composure quickly, and cheered her teammates on. After their game, each senior is introduced along with their parents. They also read a few words written by each senior as they meet their parents at center court. I guess it is a farewell ceremony! Casey and a friend, Christina made a sign for Cayla's last game & held it up for her. Cole, Heather & her friend came to the game, along with Uncle Glenn, Aunt Buffy & Katie, Nana, Grandma & Granddaddy, Jenny Lynn and of course Austin!!! We thank each & every one of you for your love & support of our children!

We went back to see Cayla's doctor today. He said she has a torn MCL as well as an ACL.That is why she is still having the pain on the interior of the knee. The pain is the worse in the morning's. I guess the knee has been so still during the night it has to get warmed up. He wants her to continue to exercise the knee. Before he will do any surgery she must have no swelling and full range of motion back in that knee. She can now walk on the knee, but must wear the immobilizer when out around people. The knee must stay protected! She actually asked him if she could dribble the ball down the court for her last home game of her career! And maybe even shoot it. Or she could just go down & stand & take a shot! I could not believe she asked him. He told her that if both teams agreed not to touch her that she could. Then he said, you will need to wear your brace and I do not think they will allow you to do that! Poor thing!!

February 1 2008

We got up today and began to get Cayla ready for school. This is not an easy task when you can not stand on one of your legs. And if you move the wrong way you are in pain! Walking on crutches is not an easy task itself! I also had to get Kylie ready to go with us! We are just not in a very good way, we are depressed about this whole situation we are in. We know that life will go on and that this is a bump in the road, but that does not ease our hurting hearts. We have had something snatched away from us that we have enjoyed for years & years. Yes, the end was close, but to go out injured with no chance to play soccer is just so depressing! Oh well, we loaded up and headed on our way. We went by Chick-fil-A to get them a biscuit. The drive was wrapped around the building so I went in....wrong choice. I waited in line behind 1 lady. The cashier left, got this ladies order, gave it to her. Walked past me like I was not there. I am the only one standing at the counter. I moved to the next register....2 other cashiers gave orders to people who were waiting on their order. I moved down to another register. AS I did this, the first cashier I was at asked a lady who just walked in the door if she could help her.....well, that was fine, the young bitty....then the cashier at the cashier next to me asked a lady who had just walked up, if she could help her!!!!!Well, I will just tell you, they got me on the wrong day... I told her that she could help me! That I was their before either of the 2 ladies they had asked if they could help. I said, I must be invisible, I have been standing here for 10 minutes & none of you asked if I needed anything!!!But you let people walk in the door & you wait on them. She apologized & I told her what I wanted. I told her I was not trying to be ugly, but that I would like to be served, & not treated like I was invisible. I really started to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming or something! Finally, we got to school. Then Ky & I went to the cleaners, then to Walmart to the get groceries. We play Fullington tonight. They beat us at their gym, we did not play well that night. One of their players came over to our girls tonight and asked, Where is you #31 at tonight? Carly told her she was probably sleeping, she is taking Lortab's because she tore her ACL. The girl said, man that is bad! Well, it is bad for ya'll, but good for us. Yes, that is true, in most things there is bad and good. The good in this situation is that these girls have got to learn not to depend on one person to do everything. They have played 2 games without Cayla and we have seen a couple of players begin to take on some new responsibilities. Tonight more girls hustled and helped tote the load. They played well, buckled down and shared the load. We were proud of them.( I saw girls hustling & moving their feet on defense that I have not seen but a couple of games this year.) Now, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, to sit & watch as my child was injured. Just to have to see her watch & not be able to help her team mates. I was so proud of them all, but I was so hurt for my own. We left after their game, It just makes you sick, but you want to support the other girls so you just suck it up & go!! I just really appreciate all who have been compassionate for Cayla and us during this difficult time! Took a few pictures so we can remember this years from now. I think Cayla's face says it all!

Today Cayla meant she would drive herself to school. So she could take no pain meds after she went to sleep last night. (Bear in mind.....her room is up stairs, so she has been on the couch, in the den, & me on the love seat, every night this week!) Well, that is just what she did. After we finally got her dressed,( after I have gone up & down the stairs 100 times, getting the right & wrong things she needed!!!) I helped her in her truck & she drove herself. Now I am at home all day....depressed about the whole circumstance! After she got home today she said she would let me take her to school tomorrow! Hmmmmm!!!

Doctors Appointment

Today we go to see Doctor Bearden at 9:30. I must say, her knee looks bad & several who have had ACL tares have told me it does not sound good! Well, I know this, but I just want a miracle for her! The news was not what we wanted to hear at our visit today. After examining her knee, he told her that the ACL was torn. He could not tell about the meniscus, she was to tender in that area. He will check it next week. She nor I could hold back the tears when he gave us the devastating news. My heart is just aching for my baby girl. I knew he was going to tell us this news, but until we had to hear it,we could still have hope! Her senior year of sports, has now come to and end, no chance for soccer this year! He told her that it will stop hurting! He could put a brace on it & let her go. If she does this at her young age, & because she is so active, then when she is 40-45 years of age she will be looking at knee replacement! Also, if the meniscus is not torn & she gets to active, it will be at a great risk of being injured because she has no ACL to help stabilize it! She went to school, it was not pretty. She could not hold back the tears & disappointment! My heart broke as I had to watch this unfold! Some of her friends & teachers rallied around her to give their love & support! I appreciate them so much! Her soccer coach said, I will have to talk to her later....I am going to cry right now! So many friends, teachers, and family have been disappointed for Cayla too! You just hate to see such an injury for such young kids. Dr. Bearden said.....6 months recovery! No words can express the disappoint that we are feeling at our house.

Today Cayla did not go to school. She & I were up part of the night last night. Her knee is very swollen and she is in lots of pain. Now, I do not deal with seeing others in pain very well. It makes me want to faint or become nauseated or both! Winston had to help her get to the restroom this am!!! We have iced the knee most of the day 20 min. on/ 20 min. off. Let me tell you, I have had a work out today! Between Cayla & Kylie....what a day! Kylie knew that Ca Ca was hurt last night & she did not like it a bit. When she got up this am, she saw Ca Ca and said..Ca Ca hurt & then rubbed her face! She then got on the couch with her & proceeded to tell me her leg hurt too! I asked if she needed ice too, she said es! So I gave her an ice pack too! When Ca Ca had jell-o, Ky. had jell-o. Now, Cayla needed a bath. I told her she had better call her Grandma because I would pass out if she even acted like she was in pain! This is why I am not a nurse!!!! I am a wimp! She called Grandma & she came right over, got her hair washed too! Now, Cayla did let her know when she hurt...poor Grandma...I am sure she is going straight to Heaven! Cayla is very insistent that she is going to the game tonight, in Camilla, to support her teammates! Her Dad says that she does not need to go, I understand that, but I also know how she must feel!!! She said, just pack some ice in the car & grab the pain medicine! Well, that is just what her Grandma & I did, along with Kylie! Rachael Swilley had to take over the point, which was Cayla's position, and we were so very proud of her. She did a great job!!! Some of her team called to check on her, they wonder how they will make it without her. I told her that someone would just have to step up and fill those shoes. That they would be o:k, they just had to make their minds up! They did not win this game, but a couple of them did step up. Brook Bennett also played a good game!

Injury

Well, while playing in the game tonight, Cayla hurt her knee. It was the last part of the fourth quarter. The score has been neck and neck. Cayla began driving and drawing fouls. She was on the left side of our basket, two defenders in front of the goal. She planted with her left foot, turned to face the goal with the ball ready to shoot, as she was going to push off she heard a pop and she went straight to the floor with another player falling on top of her. We had fans yelling at the official's, they did call a foul, so I could not hear Cayla crying from the pain to begin with. When it got quite, I could hear her, it was not good! Now, she is not a crier, she didn't even cry when she got shot! Greg Brown told Linda Carol...she just tore her ACL....that girl does not cry! She is hurting! We had to pick her up and take her out! After about 5 minutes she said, I think it is better. A doctor that was there looked at it and said it seemed to be tight to him and seem o:k. Well, it was already beginning to swell. She did try to go back in & play, but did not last 2 minutes. She said it felt like jelly and very unstable, and like it was grinding. When she came back out the pain returned & it swelled up fast. She could not stand to walk or move it. We went to Smith North View to begin with, well they had all their rooms full & the waiting room full. I just went back out & headed to SGMC. Doctor Parrott came in & looked at her and said, man what did you do? She said well, I really don't know, but,it hurts and I have a game tomorrow night, how fast is this gonna heal? He told her he did not think she would play any more this year. Well, the tears poured, but we were still hopeful. They x-rayed...nothing chipped or broken. We got an immobilizer, crutches and pain med. I knew she could not go without some type of pain med. We are to go see an orthopedic doctor asap!
